Audio Slideshow: A New Life on a Different Coast

Freshman Michelle Doyle reflects on family and friends and the big move to college.

We asked the Tufts community to answer the following questions.

What is the best thing about being a freshman?

"I met my husband day one of orientation—same host advising group. We have been together ever since—no breaks or break ups! Sept. 1 is our 18 year dating anniversary and we have been married for 10 years."

What is your dorm room must-have?

"Bring ear plugs; you might want to sleep in the middle of the day, your new roommate may snore. Also bring a fan! No AC in the dorms and you'll be sweaty after moving all your stuff in."

What is one thing everyone should be sure to do while at Tufts?

"Paint the cannon; go sledding down the Hill on a lunch tray; see the Bubs many times!"

What is your advice to the class of 2014?

"Don't worry about the people who act like they have it all together. Everyone is homesick and a bit unsure of the new stuff. Be yourself, be outgoing and you will find lifelong friends."
