The Journal of the Massachusetts Dental Society honored ten young dentists who have made notable accomplishments in the field or in their community; these “Ten under 10” graduated from area dental schools within the past decade and were nominated by their peers. Five of the ten cited are graduates of the Tufts School of Dental Medicine: Dr. Dawn Ackermann, D99, Dr. Andrea Biondo, D00, Dr. Jennifer Fallon, D04, Dr. Paul Fitzgerald, D96, and Dr. Robert Leland, D01.

Dr. Aljernon Bolden, D76, was included on Ebony magazine’s list of the “100 Most Influential Black Americans” in their May issue. Dr. Bolden heads the National Dental Association, which was founded in 1913 to offer membership to minorities who were often denied entry into oral health professional organizations. He is also an associate professor of preventive and public health sciences and director of extramural education at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.

Vincent O’Neil, F96, received the St. Martin’s Press Award for the Best First Traditional Mystery Novel of 2005. The award includes a book contract with St. Martin’s Press. O’Neil’s book, Murder in Exile, will be published early in 2006 and is the first in a planned series set in the panhandle section of Florida.

Ken Redd, A87, was honored twice this summer for his professional work. He received the Robert P. Huff Golden Quill Award for Contributions to the Literature on Student Financial Aid and was profiled in the Chronicle for Higher Education as one of ten “New Voices” in higher education. Redd’s research tracking the “downside of discounting” was among the accomplishments cited by the Chronicle. He is director of research and policy analysis for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

Shari Redstone, J75, is to become vice chairman of Viacom, Inc., after the conglomerate splits its Viacom and CBS properties. Redstone, who sits on the Viacom board of directors, currently runs National Amusements, a movie theatre chain owned by her family.

Chuck Rosenberg, A82, was appointed United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas, the seventh largest district in the country. Rosenberg was chief of staff for Deputy Attorney General James B. Comey at the Department of Justice. He has also served as counselor to Attorney General John Ashcroft, counsel to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III, and as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Michael Sexton, A88, has teamed up with Donald Trump to start Trump University. Sexton, who is president of the new venture, wanted to start an online education business and pitched the idea to the “You’re Fired” man of fame. Trump University does not issue credits or degrees; instead, it offers online courses in the fields of entrepreneurship, real estate, and marketing created by professors from leading colleges. Since its inception in May, the site has received more than 8 million hits.

Warren M. Silver, A70, was confirmed as the newest justice on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. A longtime attorney in Bangor, Maine, Silver served on the board of governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association and as chairman of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court’s Civil Rules Committee. He is perhaps best known for being the attorney and friend of author Stephen King.

Eric T. Washington, A76, was appointed Chief Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the city’s highest court. The court’s youngest jurist, Washington was appointed to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in 1995 and to the Court of Appeals in 1999. Prior to his appointment to the D.C. courts, Washington was a partner at Hogan & Hartson LLP. ”
