Sue Furlong, J82, was named one of 25 “Women of Influence” in NJBiz, a New Jersey business magazine. Furlong is president of DVC Worldwide, an international marketing and communications company in Morristown, NJ, that is the state’s largest advertising agency. Furlong was chosen for her key role in the economic life of the state.

Samuel Kratchman, A85, D89, was featured on the cover of Main Line Today, a lifestyle magazine for Philadelphia’s western suburbs, for a story on the “Best Dentists” in the area. Kratchman was noted in the field of endodontics. He teaches at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School.

Mitchell Lunn, A04, is part of a research team at Columbia University that has discovered that indoprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, may increase the production of protein lacking in patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a fatal pediatric genetic disease. The scientists hope that the discovery will lead to a treatment for SMA, which is the leading genetic killer of children younger than two in the U.S. Lunn, a senior research staff assistant, was the lead researcher on the study.

Stephen MacDonald, A69, was named the 17th president of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA. He has been the school’s VP for academic affairs and dean of the faculty since 1998 and has served as acting president since May 2004. As dean, he worked with the faculty and former president to help initiate several new academic programs and to enhance the academic reputation of the college.

Eva Shinagel, J85, was awarded a Superior Honor Award by the U.S. Department of State for her “outstanding achievement in helping to bring about the enlargement of NATO by seven new members, 2001–2004,” when she served as the NATO Enlargement officer. She works with the Office of NATO Policy in the State Department’s European Bureau, where she focuses on NATO’s relationships with countries in North Africa and the Middle East.

A slew of Tufts lawyers were recognized for their contributions to the legal profession. Among those cited were Paul A. Rowe, A58, and Jeffrey White, A70, who were included in The Best Lawyers in America 2005–2006. Rowe is managing partner of the New Jersey law firm Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP, where he chairs the litigation department. White is a partner with Portland, ME–based Pierce Atwood LLP, where he practices primarily civil and business litigation. David Gibbs, A74, David H. Lee, A69, and Shari Gilbert Levitan, J79, were named as “Massachusetts Super Lawyers” in the November issue of Boston Magazine. Gibbs is a partner at Bowditch & Dewey, where he practices business litigation. Lee is a partner at Lee & Levine LLP, where he specializes in family law. Levitan chairs the New England Private Wealth Services practice for Holland & Knight LLP. Jonathan L. Katz, A85, was included in the December 2004 issue of Washingtonian Magazine’s “Top Lawyers List.” Katz is the criminal and constitutional defense law partner of Marks & Katz LLC, in Silver Spring, MD.
