Weekend of Champions
Tufts athletes had a Memorial Day weekend they won’t soon forget. Their winning streak began on May 24, when Jana Hieber, a senior, capped her Tufts career by winning the NCAA title in the four-hundred-meter hurdles. (Her secret? “Running as fast as I could.”) The next day, the men’s lacrosse team garnered its second NCAA title, beating Salisbury University 12–9 in Baltimore. “It’s just a great tribute to our alums and all the people and friends who support us,” says Mike Daly, A95, the team’s head coach. Finally, on May 27, the softball team proved its “spirit and drive” (in the words of head coach Cheryl Milligan, J98, G01, N12) when it beat Salisbury 6–0 in Tyler, Texas—clinching its second straight NCAA championship.
