A Matter of Time

I remember fondly those carefree days of kindergarten, sitting at my tiny desk, totally immersed in making art. This passion extended into my college years, but after much success in replicating my world precisely, I began to lose sight of the joy that drawing once gave me. As Picasso said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” What drives my art today is the desire to work as a child in an adult mindset and body. I try to redefine the familiar and highlight the small but significant details that busy adults often disregard.
A Matter of Time, done in chalk and mixed media on chalkboard,
suggests the spontaneity of children’s drawings: they are to be looked at,
shared briefly, and erased in a transcending moment. For children, the act
of creation is supreme. I want to help people revisit that distant yet familiar
place. We often forget why we make art, but when we look at children’s
drawings, it all becomes clear. And the phrase “My kid could draw
that!” takes on a whole new meaning.
