Tufts Celebrates!
The 150th and Bacow Inauguration
In Tufts 150 year history, its significant events are usually noted
one at a time, each one adding distinctly to the University's growth.
But this April Tufts had a rare opportunity to celebrate two historic
moments at once: the inauguration of Lawrence S. Bacow as Tufts'
12th president and a birthday party for Tufts, looking better than
ever at 150. The stars aligned for a special three-day program,
The 150th Anniversary & Inauguration Celebration, an event that
invited joy as well as reflection and vision. The festivities got
under way with the Inaugural Concert in Cohen Auditorium on Thursday,
April 18, and continued the following day on a tented Ellis Oval
for the inauguration of President Bacow. The celebration concluded
in high gear on Saturday, April 20, as students, faculty, alumni,
staff, trustees, overseers and friends danced the night away at
the Gantcher Family Sports and Convocation Center. We hope the following
pages will convey the excitement of this spirited celebration and
add meaning, long after the last note has sounded, to what Tufts
University means as an academic community rich with history and
with promise.
