THE COLLEGE

Fresh Faces of 2004

To the strains of a brass quintet, the 1,186 undergraduates in the Class of 2004 were joined by their families at matriculation ceremonies on August 30. President John DiBiaggio told the students that "today you begin a relationship with this university that will last a lifetime. You are embarking on an exciting journey, and we are here to make sure that you get off to a great start. It is fine to be passionate about your beliefs," he said. "In fact, it is the fuel that gives light and life to this campus. Combine it with civility and respect, and our campus will continue to be the envy of many, one where spirited debate is welcomed, and where everyone's voice is heard."

Dowling Hall: A Jumbo Welcome

Tufts' newest facility on the Medford/Somerville campus is not only just an easier way uphill, it's a creative restructuring of student services for undergraduate and graduate students. Named for benefactor John Dowling, A59, and distinguished by the university's most impressive tribute to Tufts' mascot, Jumbo, the building is welcomed by students and visitors alike, who now can take an elevator up seven flights from Boston Avenue to the top of the Hill and the heart of campus. The seventh and topmost floor houses a new Student Services Center, which consolidates various offices into a streamlined, one-stop shop for student services, including the academic and student life deans, Career Services, Student Employment, the Bursar's Office, Financial Aid, and Study Abroad. Parking and the Office of Public Safety are located on floors below.
