Switzerland A contemporary art fair proved a popular setting on June 24, when around 40 alumni, their partners, friends and/or parents as well as two trustees gathered in Basel for an inaugural event of the Tufts Club in Switzerland. The day started with a guided tour of the Young Art Exhibit "Liste 2000," where young and yet unknown artists exhibit their work in the industrial surroundings of a former brewery. After lunch, the group walked over to the world's most influential contemporary art fair, Basel Art. All famous modern and contemporary artists since WWII were represented in paintings, installations, sculptures, photographs, drawings and editions. At the end of the day, impressions of the exhibit were shared over cocktails in the VIP Lounge. "Wait to hear more from us!" writes event coordinator Daniel Unger, A92.

Cape Cod Guest speaker the Rev. Scotty McLennan, University chaplain, continued to be a popular guest at alumni club events throughout the spring. Dr. Bernard Maney, A49, M53, of the Cape Cod Tufts Club writes in that more than 50 graduates and friends turned out for the groupÕs spring luncheon at the Coonamessett Inn in Falmouth to hear McLennan speak about his best-selling book, Finding Your Religion: When the Faith You Grew Up With Has Lost Its Meaning.

Atlanta In April, nearly 100 Jumbos from all over Georgia gathered at the Atlanta Zoo. The trip began with a picnic in Grant Park. Dr. Tara Stonski, J91, a primate expert and member of the zoo staff, led the tour. Alumni enjoyed the chance to meet the zoo's primates as well as the newest members of the zoo, the giant pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang. Thanks to Tara, guests also had a behind-the-scenes visit that included feeding the rhinos, touring the primate lab and posing in Jumbo-spirit for a photo with an elephant. "The event was considered a rousing success by all, especially with Tara's wonderful guidance," said coordinator J.J. Kwashnak, A88.

San Francisco The all-new steering committee of the San Francisco Tufts Alliance (SFTA) tied together memories of Boston with current lives in the Bay Area. The "old" home team, the Boston Red Sox, came to town to challenge our "new" home team, the Oakland A's. Three decades of Jumbos brought family and friends to the game, where they had a great time cheering for both teams, meeting old friends and making new ones. They even met an honorary Jumbo, Stomper, the A's mascot.
